LeRoy W. Smith, age 70 of Battle Creek, went home to be with his Lord and Savior with his wife and daughter by his side on June 26, 2010, at Loring Hospital, Sac City.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

LeRoy Smith was born May 6, 1940 in LaCrosse, Wisc., the son of LeRoy and Evelyn (Fleitner) Smith. He was baptized and confirmed in 1976 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Growing up, LeRoy attended LaCrosse Elementary and LaCrosse High.

On Aug. 8, 1972, LeRoy was united in marriage to Sharon K. Speth in Galena, Ill. Together they were blessed with one daughter, Diane.

LeRoy was a mechanic and then a truck driver for many years until he retired in November of 2006. He currently was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. LeRoy had a great love and passion for the Native American Indian Culture He enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, and being out in nature. LeRoy was also an avid Nascar fan. He treasured his 1965 Chevy Impala SS and his little dog Abby. LeRoy loved his family and spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon of Battle Creek; his sons: Chris (Tracy) Smith of Wellsburg; Bruce Smith of Wellsburg; daughter, Diane Minnmann of Sioux City; stepsons: Mark (Keri) Shadlow of Storm Lake; Dale (Tammy) Shadlow of Roland; 12 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; his sisters: Sharon (Dick) Miller of Crystal River, Fla.; Audrey Collins of Cashton, Wisc.; half brother, Eric Smith of Wisconsin; half sisters: Becky (Eric) Jagush of Houston, Minn.; Kathy (Maynerd) Fladhammer of Westby, Wisc.; nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy S. and Evelyn Smith; step-mother, Geneva Smith; maternal and paternal grandparents; and a step-daughter, Deanna Shadlow.
