Memorial services were held for Daryl "Gus" Olson on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Denton Bible Church. He was cremated and will be interred at the Dallas National Cemetery at a later date.

Daryl Olson, son of Cliff and Helen Chindlund Olson was born in Laurens, on July 18, 1933. He was baptized into the Marathon Methodist Church, and was later accepted as a member. He graduated from the Marathon Consolidated School in 1951. During his high school years, he excelled in the sports of baseball, basketball, and football.

Daryl joined the Navy in 1952 during the Korean War. While serving in the Navy, he married Rose Lindsey at the Laurens Methodist Church on July 20, 1952. Two children were born this union, Linda Olson Pierce and Judith Olson Klick. Daryl served eighteen months on the island of Guam. He also served at Virginia Beach and San Diego.

After his discharge from the Navy, he joined Braniff Airlines, being employed mainly in Omaha, Neb. and Dallas, Texas until Braniff filed for bankruptcy. While employed at Omaha, he became an avid "Big Red" fan and a golfer. He enjoyed golf for as long as he was physically able to play. His pride and joy was his 1967 Chevrolet Green Machine Pickup.

Daryl and Mary Ann Tyrrell were married Oct. 11, 1994. They made their home in Flower Mound Texas. He leaves to mourn his wife, Mary Ann, his children Linda Pierce of Fort Worth, Texas, Judith (Steve) Klick of Fort Calhoun, Neb., three step children, John Tyrrell of Austin, Texas, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sisters Mavis Stoner of Peterson, Darlen (Don) Peterson of Albert City, a brother, Dennis Olson of Anoka, Minn. and other relatives, friends and his beloved dog, Bailey.
