Marcella Ehlers, 71, of Storm Lake was called to her Heavenly home on April 20, 2010 after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Those wishing to send on-line condolences may do so via: www.fratzkejensen.com.

Marcella was born in Storm Lake on May 1, 1938 to Henry and Hulda (Brummer) Nehring. She was baptized at Lakeside Presbyterian Church. She attended school in Sulpher Springs and graduated in 1956. On Jan. 19, 1958, Marcella was united in marriage with Edgar Ehlers at Zion Lutheran Church. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on July 3, 1958 and was a member of Zion for the remainder of her life. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Brent (Carol) Ehlers of Storm Lake, Roxann (Ron) Buenger of Aurelia, Wendy (Paul) Brisbois of Des Moines, Kendra (Richard) Gordon of Des Moines and Troy (Lisa) Ehlers of Ames.

Marcella was a homemaker and worked closely with Edgar on their family farm located northeast of Storm Lake. In addition to time spent with Edgar, their children and grandchildren, Marcella had a number of varied interests over the years. She was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid and was a participant on a number of other church committees. Marcella was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes for herself and her daughters and created many wonderful outfits for the girls' Barbie dolls. Marcella also enjoyed oil painting, flower gardening, bird watching, quilting and researching her family genealogy. With her many outside interests, no one would disagree that she enjoyed playing golf the most! She participated in a number of women's leagues and she and Edgar played in many two-ball tournaments each summer. Marcella enjoyed the lasting friendships she formed through playing golf. During her many golf outings, Marcella experienced the excitement of scoring a hole in one not once, but twice!

In addition to her husband of 52 years and her children, Marcella is survived by six grandchildren which were her pride and joy: Austin and Anna Marie Ehlers, Olivia and Elam Brisbois, Claire and Chase Gordon. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law: Nate McKenna and Dwayne (Phyllis) Ehlers; along with many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers - Delwin, Arlin, Alvin, Eldon and Melvin; two sisters - Deloris McKenna and Elenora Plumhoff; and two infant brothers; several brothers and sisters-in-law.
