Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the United Church of Christ in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda was in charge of the arrangements.
Doris Arabel Domino was born on Jan. 19, 1917 in Hadam, Kan. to Floyd and Carrie (Brown) Domino. She attended school in Nemaha, Newell, Fonda and Varina where she graduated from Varina High School in 1935.
On Nov. 6, 1937, Doris was united in marriage to Virgil Darwin Hornor at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. To this union they were blessed with two children, Sherry Mae and Duane. Virgil and Doris lived in the Newell and Fonda areas and worked together farming and running the Hornor Dairy in Fonda. She loved gardening, especially her large strawberry garden. Doris enjoyed doing crafts, cooking, and truly enjoyed dancing with Virgil. She treasured being with her family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Doris was a member of the United Church of Christ all her married life and was very active in the Women's fellowship. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #258 in Fonda since 1937 where she held different district and state offices. She was a member of the Women's Club in Fonda, the Pocahontas Cancer Society for many years, a board member of the Fonda Housing Authority, and worked to organize the All-School Reunion in Fonda. Since 1945, she has been a member of the WeeFew Card Club. Doris cooked for congregate meals in Fonda and was a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Fonda. She was on the Pocahontas Elderbridge Committee and received the Governor award for Volunteer.
One of the many highlights in her life was the celebration of her 71st wedding anniversary with Virgil.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sherry Gustafson of Fonda, and Duane (Eldona) Hornor of Albert City; four grandchildren: Brad Gustafson, Annette (Eric) Howard, Kyle (Laurie) Hornor; Carrie Hornor; three great grandchildren: Brittany Hornor; Eriana Howard; Issac Hornor; two step-great-grandchildren: Michelle (Chad) Krogstad and Stephanie Drees; one step-great-great-grandchild, Isabelle Triggs; her brother, V. Lynn (Millie) Domino; brother-in-law, Lowell (Dorothea) Hornor; extended family and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; and two brothers, Vaughn and Lowell Domino.
