Jordan Henningsen - Junior - Alta
Leading the conference in scoring for the third straight season, Henningsen turned in 20.7 a night, sixth-best in Class 1A. The sure-shooter made 43% from the field, 38% from three, and 66% at the line. Not just a scorer, the 5-foot-6 guard led the NW in assists with 5.1 a game. The junior also came up with 4.1 boards and 2.3 steals a game.
Alisa Christensen - Senior - Newell-Fonda
With Christensen shoring up the N-F backcourt, the Mustangs were fifth in Class 1A in assists and third in steals. Christensen connected on 42% from the field for 10.2 points a game, while adding 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals.
Susan Kies - Senior - Newell-Fonda
The reigning 1A softball Player of the Year shined on the hardwood as well, averaging 18.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 3.4 steals for a 23-3 Mustang squad. The senior was one of the area's most efficient shooters, hitting on 49% from the field, 37% from three, and 75% at the line as the Mustangs made their seventh trip to the State Tournament.
Becky Seivert - Senior - Newell-Fonda
One of three players to average double-figures on a balanced N-F attack, Seivert checked in with 10.7 points and 7.3 rebounds. The senior's 19-point, 16-rebound performance in the Regional finals sent the Mustangs to State for the second time in three seasons.
Brooke Scharn - Senior - Sioux Rapids
Paving the way for a 15-5 finish on the year, Scharn had another banner year, finishing second in the NW in scoring (19.0), fourth in rebounding (8.0), third in assists (4.7), and second in steals (3.9). The Rebels were third in a heated NW race as they handed Newell-Fonda their first conference loss since 2008, behind a 23-point, eight-rebound effort from Scharn.
Slone Masters - Senior - Storm Lake
One of four senior starters to key the Tornadoes' Lakes title and State Tournament berth, Masters was second in the conference in both points (15.8 per game) and rebounding (8.6). The senior hit on 50% from the field, and 39% from three (43 made, 11th-most in 3A), while adding 2.8 assists and 3.3 steals.
Cassie Meylor - Senior - Storm Lake
SL's 6-foot center thrived down low in 2010 as she nearly averaged a double-double per outing with 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. Defensively, her 66 blocks were 8th-most in Class 3A. A 50% shooter from the field, Meylor upper her rate at the line to a team-best 70%, after hitting just 45% last season.
Morgan VanDerSloot - Soph - Storm Lake
The lone sophomore starter on a senior-laden SL team, VanDerSloot emerged as one of the more versatile players in the Lakes, averaging 9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.6 steals. The 5-foot-10 point-forward knocked down 39% from the field, 34% from three, and 66% at the line for the 20-3 Tornadoes.
