* On Wednesday, March 3, at approximately 1:35 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department assisted the Buena Vista County Sheriffs Department at 1332 North Erie Street #4 in connection with standing by while a tenant was being evicted from the apartment.
While on location a subject identified as Stephen Mack, age 25 of Storm Lake, showed up at the residence to assist in removing property from the apartment. Police determined that Mack was wanted on Storm Lake Police Department warrants charging him with 5 counts of Credit Card Theft (aggravated misdemeanor) and 1 count of Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor).
Police arrested Mack without incident and booked him into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $10,300 cash bond.
Five charges filed against man accused of sexual assault
* On Jan. 11, 2010, Storm Lake Police took reports from two adult males who alleged they had been drugged and sexually assaulted.
The two victims told police that during the late hours of Jan. 10, 2010, and the early morning hours of Jan. 11, 2010, they were at a private party at the Boathouse located at 502 Lake Avenue. Both victims reported to police that they felt as if they had been drugged and both alleged that a subject identified as Eric Sparling, age 25 who has residents in both Alta, and Sioux Rapids, had sexually assaulted them.
Police initiated an investigation and obtained a blood sample from one of the victim's which after analysis revealed the presence of methadone.
On Feb. 22, 2010, Storm Lake Police executed search warrants in connection with the investigation at 317 Alta Vista Street in Alta, and at 1668 440th Street, Sioux Rapids assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriffs Department and the Alta Police Department.
At the Sioux Rapids address police located and seized a small amount of marijuana and a 20 gauge shotgun. At the Alta address police located and seized prescription medications.
Following continued investigation on Thursday morning, March 4, 2010, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Storm Lake Police arrested Eric Sparling at the Storm Lake Police Station and charged him with Sexual Abused 3rd Degree (class C felony), Assault With Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse (class D felony), 2 counts of Administering Harmful Substances (class D felony) and Providing Alcohol to a Minor (serious misdemeanor). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $26,000 cash bond.
SL man arrested for harassing Tyson employee
* On Thursday, March 4, at approximately 1:15 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Tyson Plant in reference to a report that an employee had been threatened.
Upon arrival of police they met with the victim who reported while walking in a designated employee walkway a vehicle approached him and the passenger in the vehicle allegedly threatened the victim.
Police located the suspect vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot on North Lake Avenue and made contact with the occupants. Police identified the passenger as Kahari Kareem Gaiter, age 19 of Storm Lake.
Following an investigation police arrested Gaiter and charged him with Harassment 3rd Degree. Gaiter was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.
Accidents
* On March 2, at 9:27 p.m. an accident occurred in the 7100 block of E. Lakeshore Dr. in Storm Lake. A vehicle driven by Peter Hiebert of Newell, struck a deer in the roadway. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
* On March 2, at 2:56 p.m. an accident occurred at the intersection of N. Lake Ave. and W. 10th St. in Storm Lake. A vehicle driven by Larry Barglof of Linn Grove, was south bound on Lake stopped at a stop light and was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Cheryl Wernimont of Fonda. Wernimont was cited with Fail To Stop At Safe Assured Distance. Total damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,700.
* On March 2, at 8:39 a.m. an accident occurred on Highway 110 near the intersection with Abner Bell Road in Storm Lake. A vehicle driven by Tasha Nuetzman-Wiese of Storm Lake was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Shirley Myrtue of Schaller. Myrtue was cited with Failure To Stop At Safe Assured Distance. Total damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,100.
Theft/Vandalism
* On March 2, vandalism to a vehicle was reported at 715 Michigan. Damage was estimated at $5.
