As Iowa lawmakers duke it out in debates over regulation of the fast-growing sports entertainment field of mixed martial arts "cage fighting," a young Storm Lake fighter and entrepreneur with his own MMA company admits the sport needs a lot of guidance.
"It does need to be regulated," says Tyler Price, a 2009 Buena Vista University graduate who started Midwest Fighting Alliance in Storm Lake two years ago at age 21.
Since then, the company has staged eight performances in the community, and has seen 20-25 local competitors become MMA fighters on a regular basis.
