Burdette G. Grieme, age 81, of Galva, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. John's Lutheran Church of Galva with Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating. Burial will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 from 4 -- 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 -- 8 p.m. at the church. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.

Burdette G. Grieme was born on March 12, 1928 in Sac County on the farm northeast of Galva to Reinhardt Grieme and Helen (Holtz) Grieme. He was baptized on May 12, 1928 in Hanover and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva on Oct. 12, 1941. He attended school in Galva and graduated in 1945.

He married Ardis Specketer on Feb. 19, 1950 in the brand new St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva. To this union two children were born, Julie Diane and Keith Gerold. Ardis passed away in 2008.

Burdette farmed near Aurelia for 10 years and then moved to the family farm northeast of Galva in 1960. He had a machine repair business for many years on the farm and lived there until retiring and moving to Galva in 1955. He moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Holstein in June 2009. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for most of his life and held many offices there. He was a 4-H leader and had a great love for fishing, gardening and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ardis; his grandson, Ryan; and a niece.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie and husband Vance Grell of Galva; a son, Keith and wife Deb Grieme of Galva; a granddaughter, Mindi and husband Mike Vervaecke of St. Ansgar, Iowa; a granddaughter-in-law, Brook Grell of Galva; five great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brianna and Brody Grell, and Taylor and Sam Vervaecke; two sisters, Jean and husband Jerry Jensen of Aurelia, and Betty and husband Ron Drey of Early; plus many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
