Martha Buckendahl, age 92, died on Feb. 7 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services were held on Feb. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Graveside services followed at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.
Martha was born on Jan. 25, 1918, to Mary and Rudolph Herzberg in Yorktown. She was a homemaker and property manager in Fort Dodge and Des Moines. She and her husband lived and worked in the Sherman Hill neighborhood restoring historic apartment buildings and homes. She was active in the Lutheran Church, participating in choir, Ladies Guild, and LWML.
Martha is survived by her son, Robert A. Buckendahl; her daughter, Mary Kay (Buckendahl) Frasier; her son-in-law, Rev. James Brammeier; grandchildren, Christa Brammeier (Keith Grabske), Dr. Meredith Brammeier, Lisa Buckendahl (Kirk Neilhouse), Robert J. Buckendahl, Jamie Brammeier, Heather Brammeier (Dr. Anthony Bedenikovic), Alicia Frasier, Aaron Frasier, and Nathan Frasier; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lydia, Kenton, Margaretha, and Jamison; sister-in-law Vera Buckendahl; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert J. Buckendahl; her daughter, Loreeta (Buckendahl) Brammeier; her parents, Mary and Rudolph Herzberg; her brother, Alvin Herzberg; her sister, Loretta (Herzberg) Bauer; sisters-and brothers-in-law Fred and Clara Lullman, Edwin Buckendahl, Harvey and Frieda Buckendahl, and Melvin Bauer.
