Laurens man charged with theft after keeping man with same name's payroll check

* On Jan. 12, 2010 the Storm Lake Police Department took a report of fraudulent practices involving a payroll check from Tyson Fresh Meats.

Police were told that on Dec. 17, 2009 James Brown III, age 42 of Lauren, received his payroll check from Tyson and he allegedly also inadvertently received the payroll check of another Tyson employee by the same name.

Rather than reporting the error to Tyson, Brown on Dec. 17, 2009 allegedly cashed the victim's check at a Storm Lake business in the amount of $342. Brown then cashed his own paycheck the following day.

Following an investigation police arrested Brown on Friday, Feb. 5, and charged him with Theft 4th Degree (serious misdemeanor). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond and was later released pending a court date.

Wanted SL man arrested

* On Saturday, Feb. 6, at approximately 9:47 a.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer while on patrol observed a wanted subject in the area of the parking lot at Puff's Bar on East Lakeshore Drive.

Police made contact with the subject who is identified as Devin Miller, age 23 of Storm Lake. Miller was arrested without incident on an outstanding warrant in connection with Driving While Barred.

Miller was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

Ames man arrested for supplying alcohol to minor

* On Friday, Feb. 5, at approximately 11:54 p.m. Storm Lake Police Officers were conducting a bar check at the Malarky's Night Club when they reportedly observed an underage male receiving an alcoholic drink from another subject.

Police made contact with the two men and identified the underage patron as Austin Mogg, age 19 of El Reno, OK. Mogg was charged with Possession of Alcohol. He was cited and released pending a court date.

Police further arrested Joseph Klinkel, age 21 of Ames, and charged him with Supplying Alcohol to a Minor and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond.

SL man stopped for erratic driving; Arrested for OWI and marijuana possession

* On Friday, Feb. 5, at approximately 10:23 p.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of Malarky's Night Club after allegedly observing the vehicle driving in an erratic manner.

Upon contacting the driver identified as Michael Robinson, age 54 of Storm Lake police report he was intoxicated and arrested him. Police further located and seized a quantity of marijuana from Robinson's vehicle.

Police charged Robinson with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 3rd Offense (aggravated misdemeanor), OWI, and No Drivers License. While being booked into the Buena Vista County Jail Robinson allegedly attempted to start a fight with another inmate. He was further charged with Disorderly Conduct.

Robinson was held on a $3,600 cash bond.

Disturbance call lands two men in jail Sunday

* On Sunday, Feb. 7, at approximately 10:06 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Sail Inn Motel on East Lakeshore Drive in reference to a disturbance.

Responding officers were further advised that two subjects were being loud outside of their room near room #30. Upon arrival of a police officer he encountered the two subjects later identified as Michael Beasley, age 49 of Orange, TX and Darrell Phenis, age 36 of Ridgeville, IN. The officer took Beasley into custody and allegedly ordered Phenis to stay where he was however Phenis reportedly retreated into a motel room.

Police acquired a key to the motel room and made entry where they encountered Phenis and took him into custody.

Storm Lake Police charged Beasley with Public Intoxication and booked him into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

Police charged Phenis with Public Intoxication and Interference With Official Acts. He was booked into the county jail on a $300 cash bond.

SL couple arrested for assaulting each other

* On Saturday, Feb. 6, at approximately 6:56 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 1409 North Seneca Street #47 in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival of police they located an adult male and female during an investigation allege the two physically assaulted each other over the last 36 hours. Police identified the two as David Neal, age 44 and Sharon Hoover, age 45 both of Storm Lake.

Police further were told that Sharon Hoover tackled Neal and took the phone away from him when he attempted to call 911.

Following an investigation police arrested both Hoover and Neal. Neal was charged with Domestic Assault. Hoover was charged with Domestic Assault and Obstruction of Emergency Communications.

Both subjects were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.
