The Hanover Historical Society had another profitable year, it was shared at the annual meeting on Sunday.

The August festival brought out some 800 visitors to the historical village. The event, which featured polka music to dance and listen to from two popular bands, tours of the historical buildings, children's events, demonstrations, food and a great deal of fun and fellowship brought in a profit of $2,776.12.

There were several tours during the spring and summer months. It was shared that the first grade Alta School children have been coming for 10 years. This year, the first grade and the 10th grade (which was the first of the first grade classes) visited. The 10th grade was gun ho and completed a great deal of volunteer work at the site which was very much appreciated.

Funds were received from the Buena Vista County Community Foundation and the Cherokee Legacy Fund. Diamond Vogel provided paint through the Keep Iowa Beautiful grant. The Odd Fellows of Storm Lake made a donation of $5,000 to the group. All these funds were greatly appreciated as the members continue to make improvements at the village.

Projects completed include the shingling and painting at the corner house.

The tractor ride has become a fun annual event. This year there were 40 tractors. The women fed the participants following the ride. Threshing and saw mill demonstrations were held after lunch. This event brought in $676 for the group. The KICD tractor ride also included Hanover in its places of interest to stop. The women fed this group as well.

More displays and gifts were received during the year to add to the collections while costs for the upkeep and refurbishing continue

"As chair, I would like to thank you for the fine support," said Vernon Winterhof. "We are looking forward to another good year in 2010."
