Leonard was born July 5, 1915 in Marathon, the son of Robert and Julia (Johnson) Ross.
He married Sarah D. Romine on July 7, 1936, in Knoxville. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2008.
Leonard was a graduate of Marathon High School and went on to be in one of the first graduating classes from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He owned his own practice in Rock Island, retiring in 1998 after 50 years of serving the Quad Cities.
He was a member of the Illinois State House of Representatives from 1960-62, Illinois State Merit Commission, Illinois State Civil Service Commission, the Rock Island Police and Fire Commission, and Rock Island City Council and lifetime member of Illinois State Prairie Chiropractic Association. Leonard also loved taking care of his family and gardening at their home.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Pagel, of Oregon; granddaughters, Dawn Ross, Moline, Ill.; Amy Haff, Moline, Ill.; and Karla Gallagher, of Alaska; grandson, James (Kimberly) Ross, Rock Island, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; step-granchildren; step-great-granchildren; and a sister, Ruth House. He was preceded in death by a son, Creel Ross, his parents, and brothers Oscar and Bud Ross.
