Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Lloyd Henry Combes, son of Bert E. and Eva Elda (Morris) Combes was born Aug. 25, 1918 in Storm Lake. He attended Hayes Consolidated School and Sulpher Springs High School.
On June 26, 1943 Lloyd was united in marriage to Fern Bumann at the Baptist Parsonage in Storm Lake. They made their home in Sioux City, for 63 years and then moved to Storm Lake. They were blessed with two sons, Michael and Craig.
Lloyd was baptized at the Baptist Church in Storm Lake. In 1945, he was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Lloyd worked at Wincharger and after 25 years of dedication as a mechanic to Wilson Trailer Company, he retired in 1983. He also operated a Standard Oil operation for 12 years.
Lloyd was a member of the Tyrian Lodge 508 and had received his 50 year Masonic membership. Additionally, he was a member of the Wrecking Crew, York Rite Chapter, Abu Bekr Shrine and Temple, and Hospital Dade. Lloyd enjoyed woodworking and doing yard work.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Fern of 66 years; his two sons: Michael (Hillarie) Combes of Long Beach, Calif.; Craig (Nancy) Combes of Monte Vista, Colo.; his sister-in-law, Gladys Johnson; brothers-in-law: Marvin, Robert, Lloyd and Wendell Bumann; extended family and friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Grace (Lloyd) Haburn; Eva Mae (Harry) Bonebrake; his brothers: Clarence (Frida) Combes; Merle (Edna) Combes; and Omer (Gladys) Combes; his brothers-in-law: Richard Bumann, Luverne Bumann, Ernie Meins, and Dennis Johnson; his sister-in-law, Lois Kass.
