Max Paulsen, age 86, of Storm Lake, died Dec. 28, 2009 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

A memorial service was Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Inurnment will be at a later date. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Max Paulsen, son of Henry "Hank" and Sarah (Roberts) Paulsen was born May 23, 1923 in Storm Lake. Max was baptized and later confirmed in the Lakeside Presbyterian Church. Max attended grade school and high school in Storm Lake where he graduated.

Max served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Okinawa. Max also served in the Korean War as a Military Police officer where he was stationed in Germany.

On March 9, 1946, Max was united in marriage to Patricia Bennett. To this union, two children were blessed, John and Michael.

Max was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake as well as a member of the Elks Club. Max was a Little League baseball coach and played the tuba in the Storm Lake Municipal Band. He treasured his family and introduced his kids into the family business and enjoyed working closely with his sons. Max enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his woodshop, and occasionally golfing. Max had a passion for dancing and loved dancing with his wife, Patty.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia of Storm Lake; his children: John (Nancy) Paulsen of Truesdale; Michael Paulsen of Truesdale; his grandchild, Sarah (Andy Mattson) Paulsen of Sioux City; his great grandson, Bennett Paulsen; two nephews, Dana Paulsen of LaPorte City, and Rick Paulsen of Reno, Nev.; extended family and friends.


Max was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward "Dudley"; his two infant children, Daniel Raymond and Diana Irene; David Paulsen, a nephew lost in Vietnam.
