Tornado grapplers topped by LeMars, Spencer

LEMARS - Opening up Lakes Conference wrestling action, Storm Lake hit the road for dual action in LeMars Thursday night, falling to both the Tigers (50-28) and the Bulldogs (48-30).

"These were two tough duals against talented teams," said SL head coach Ben Strandberg. "Our guys showed a lot of heart. We currently have two undefeateds wrestling. Jake Larson and Eric Carillo are 4-0. Larson has four wins by fall, and Carillo has three by fall and one by injury default."

Against Spencer, the Tornadoes picked up victories in five matches, highlighted by Juan Figueroa's 28-second pin at 112 pounds and Larson's 33-second pin. Carillo added a pin in 2:25 at heavyweight, as did Christian Gomez at 125. Dylan Tornabane added the fourth SL win, a 20-6 major decision victory at 103.

Against the host Bulldogs, the victory total remained the same as Tornabane and Figueroa won by forfeit, Larson and KJ Besch (171) won by pin, and Carillo nabbed a decision.

The Tornadoes are back on the mats today, traveling to the Emmetsburg Invitational.
