SL man tasered after charging an officer

* On Friday, Nov. 27, at approximately 8:50 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 226 Oneida Street in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival of police they met with an adult female and male. 
The female told police that they male had assaulted her by allegedly overturning a chair she was sitting in.

The male identified as Henry Jordan, age 56 of Storm Lake was advised by police that he was under arrest at which time he reportedly became aggressive towards police and charged an officer. An officer and Jordan struggled at which time Jordan tore the officer's uniform shirt. The officer subdued Jordan by deploying a Taser unit.

Police seized a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia from Jordan's home during the investigation.

Jordan was subsequently transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated for fractures to his collar bone sustained in the fight with police. He was treated and released and transferred by police to the Buena Vista County Jail.

Storm Lake Police charged Jordan with Assaulting a Police Officer (serious misdemeanor), Interference With Official Acts (simple misdemeanor), Possession of Marijuana (serious misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), Domestic Assault (simple misdemeanor), and Criminal Mischief (simple misdemeanor). He was held without bond in the county jail.

No officers were injured in the disturbance.

Suspicious person call leads to arrest of Early man

* On Monday, Nov. 30, at approximately 3:15 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the area of Lake and 3rd Street in reference to a suspicious person.

Upon arrival of police in the area they located the person in question. The male allegedly gave police false information as to his identity but he was subsequently identified as Santiago Moralez-Ramirez, age 30 of Early.

Following an investigation police arrested Moralez-Rodriguez and charged him with Public Intoxication and Interference With Official Acts. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

SL man subdued and arrested after resisting arrest

* On Sunday, Nov. 29, at approximately 1:04 a.m. Storm Lake Police were on location at the Malarky's Night Club conducting a bar check when they observed Malarky's security staff escorting an unruly patron out of the establishment.

The patron allegedly refused to leave at which time officers intervened and the subject resisted officers. The subject identified as Christopher Rodriguez, age 19 of Storm Lake was subdued by officers and taken into custody.

Following an investigation police charged Rodriguez with Public Intoxication 2nd Offense, Disorderly Conduct, Interference With Official Acts, and Criminal Trespass. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,900 cash bond.

SL man arrested on four charges including assault

* On Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at approximately 12:26 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Casey's West located at 222 West Milwaukee Avenue in reference to an assault.

Upon arrival of police they met with Eric Spratt, age 18 of Storm Lake who told police that he had been thrown out of an apartment located at 205 West 6th Street #6. He stated that he had been assaulted at that location.

Police responded to that location and following an investigation learned that Spratt had allegedly been drinking alcoholic beverages at the apartment and had reportedly turned the apartment into disarray. When the apartment resident returned home Friday morning he ordered Spratt to leave and Spratt allegedly picked up a beer bottle and threatened the resident. Spratt was pushed from the apartment and continued to provoke a fight outside.

Following the investigation police arrested Spratt. He was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for a minor injury to his foot where he declined treatment. Spratt was taken by police to the Buena Vista County Jail where Storm Lake Police charged him with Public Intoxication, Criminal Trespass, Simple Assault, and Disorderly Conduct. Spratt was booked into the jail on a $300 cash bond.

Juvenile arrested for assaulting her sister

* On Saturday, Nov. 28, at approximately 9:30 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 1334 Erie Street #2 in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival of police they encountered a male subject at the door of the apartment. When told to step out the male later identified as Augustine Marin, age 22 of Storm Lake reportedly refused officers commands. Officers physically removed Marin from the doorway and took him into custody.

Police further made contact with a 17 year old female of Storm Lake who was a victim of a domestic assault. The victim declined to cooperate with police and when the victim's sister attempted to tell police about what happened the 17 year old allegedly attempted to assault her sister for calling the police. Police then arrested the 17 year old female.

Following an investigation police charged Marin with Domestic Assault and Interference With Official Acts. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

The 17 year old female of Storm Lake was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Interference With Official Acts. She was processed and released to a parent pending a court date in Juvenile Court.

Two SL men arrested in early morning incident

* On Sunday, Nov. 29, at approximately 6:31 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 401 Cayuga Street, #305 in reference to a report of a subject at that location who was reportedly out of control.

Upon arrival of police they were advised that the person in question had fled from the apartment building. Police searched the area and located the suspect identified as Daniel Yanez, age 22 of Storm Lake in the 400 block of Lake Avenue.

Following an investigation police arrested Yanez and charged him with Public Intoxication and Criminal Trespass. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

While taking a statement from the reporting party identified as Larry Collins, age 55 of Storm Lake police allege they observed drug paraphernalia in his apartment. Police seized the items and arrested Collins charging him with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the county jail on a $300 cash bond.

Juvenile arrested for stealing shoes from Maurices

* On Friday, Nov. 27, at approximately 3:00 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Maurice's located at 511 Lake Avenue in reference to a reported theft.

Police were told that a store patron had allegedly departed the store wearing shoes that the female patron had not purchased.

Store employees provided police with a license number of the car the suspect departed in. Police located the suspect vehicle parked at 33 Windsor Circle and made contact with the suspect at that location identified as a 17 year old female of Storm Lake.

Following an investigation police arrested the juvenile and charged her with Theft 5th Degree. The juvenile was processed and released to a parent.

Police located and seized the stolen shoes at the Windsor Circle address.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

Fire Calls

* On Saturday, Nov. 28, at approximately 11:29 a.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to Grand Hall on the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that smoke from burnt food had activated a smoke detector on the third floor near the kitchen.

There was no fire and no damage.

The fire department remained on scene for approximately 15 minutes ventilating smoke from the building.

The fire department was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and the BVU Security Department.

* On Friday, Nov. 27, at approximately 7:35 p.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to Liberty Hall on the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that a smoke detector on the third floor had activated due to cooking related smoke.

There was no fire and no damage.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and the BVU Security Department.

Accidents

* On Nov. 21, at 5:29 p.m. an accident occurred at 1831 N Lake Ave in Storm Lake. A vehicle driven by Gloria Luna-Mendoza of Storm Lake struck a parked car owned by Eric Lucero of Storm Lake. Total damages to both vehicles was estimated at $400.

* On Nov. 20, between 4 - 5:40 p.m. an unknown vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Kayla Hansen of Storm Lake while parked at 1201 E Lakeshore Dr. Damage to the Hansen vehicles was estimated at $400.

* On Nov. 20, at 7:15 a.m. an accident occurred at the intersection of E 4th St & Flindt Dr in Storm Lake. Vehicles driven by Michael Olerich of Glidden, and Larson Alpet of Storm Lake collided in the intersection. Total damages to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000. Alpet was cited with No Insurance, Driving While Revoked, and Fail To Obey Stop Sign.

* On Nov. 16, at approximately 3:53 p.m., a vehicle driven by Linda Johnson of Storm Lake struck the stopped vehicle of Craig Mesenbrink of Storm Lake in the corner of W 5th ST and Michigan. Estimated damages to the vehicles is $3,000.

* On Nov. 21, at 9:12 a.m. an accident occurred at the intersection of W Milwaukee Ave and Northwestern Dr in Storm Lake. A vehicle driven by Snow Win of Storm Lake was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Ryan Diischer of Aurelia. Win was cited with Stopping On Traveled Portion of Highway. Total damages to both vehicles was estimated at $16,000.
