* On Wednesday, Nov. 25, at approximately 2:50 a.m. Storm Lake Police were called to the Buena Vista University in regards to a fight. Upon arrival officers were advised by BVU Security that the three people who had been fighting had fled on foot just prior to officer's arrival.
Through their investigation officers located two of the three people involved in the altercation. Police arrested the following:
Jeffrey Albright (20) of Paynesville, Minn., was charged with Disorderly Conduct. He was booked and held on a $300 bond.
James Ellis (18) of Arnolds park, was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intox. He was booked and held on $600 bond.
The third suspect was not apprehended at the scene. More arrests are expected.
Juvenile transferred to YES Center on court order
* On Tuesday, Nov. 24, Storm Lake Police were notified by Juvenile Court Services of a Juvenile Court Pick Up Order of a 13 year old male who resides in Storm Lake. The pick up order was for failing to appear in court reference a Burglary Charge filed against the juvenile by Storm Lake Police back in August of 2009.
The Juvenile was located at 1300 Oneida Street by Storm Lake Police and was taken into custody without incident. The juvenile was transported to the YES Juvenile Detention Center pending a court appearance.
Sioux Rapids man arrested for driving while suspended
* On Monday, Nov. 23, at approximately 12:20 a.m., at the location of 485th St. and Hwy 71, a Clay County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle and upon investigation, the Deputy found that Wesley Schneider, age 20, of Sioux Rapids, was driving with a suspended license. Schneider was placed under arrest and was transported to the Clay County Jail without incident. Schneider was charged with Driving Under Suspension, a simple misdemeanor.
SL man arrested by Clay County Deputy for driving while suspended
* On Sunday, Nov. 22, at approximately 3:25 a.m., at at the location of 450th St. and Hwy 71, a Clay County Deputy initiated a traffic stop with having prior knowledge that the registered owner didn't have a valid drivers license. Upon investigation, it was found that the registered owner wasn't driving but Jorge Melesio-Perez, age 24, of Storm Lake, was. Upon running a drivers license check on Melesio-Perez, it was found that he had a suspended drivers license for non-payment of an Iowa fine times 13. Melesio-Perez was placed under arrest and was transported to the Clay County Jail without incident. Melesio-Perez was charged with Driving Under Suspension, a simple misdemeanor.
SL man charged with disorderly conduct for fighting
* On Sunday, Nov. 22, at approximately 1:36 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was on location at the Malarky's Night Club conducting a security check when police observed night club security staff restraining a subject in the parking lot.
Police intervened and took a Bountheung Lo, age 33 of Storm Lake into custody. Police were told that Lo had allegedly engaged in a verbal argument with another patron and spit in the patron's face. The patron declined to pursue charges on Lo.
Police arrested Lo and charged him with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.
No injuries were reported.
Two men arrested in fight at Brewsters Bar
* On Sunday, Nov. 22, at approximately 1:25 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Brewster's Bar located at 225 East Railroad Street in reference to a disturbance.
Upon arrival of police they were directed to two men who were allegedly engaged in a verbal argument. Police made contact with the two men and allege they both were intoxicated.
Police identified the two men as Aaron White, age 35 of Storm Lake and Jerrod Grow, age 32 of Sioux Rapids. Police arrested both men and charged them with Public Intoxication. In addition police determined that White was wanted out of Marshall County, for Domestic Assault Causing Injury.
White was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.
Grow was booked into the county jail on a $300 cash bond.
Fight at Malarky's leads to arrest of SL man
* On Sunday, Nov. 22, at approximately 1:12 a.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer while on patrol observed Malarky's Night Club security staff escorting a male subject out of the night club.
Police intervened and security staff advised that the person they were escorting identified as Martin Silva-Martinez, age 25 of Storm Lake had allegedly engaged in a fight in the night club. Police were advised the second subject had departed the night club prior to the arrival of police.
Following an investigation police arrested Silva-Martinez and charged him with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.
No injuries were reported to police.
Wanted SL man arrested after surrendering himself to police
* On Saturday, Nov. 21, at approximately 12:13 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department arrested a wanted subject at the Storm Lake Police Station.
Deq Mohamed, age 26 of Storm Lake surrendered himself to police Saturday afternoon. Mohamed was wanted on warrants charging him with Public Intoxication and Violation of Probation reference Child Endangerment. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.
Two SL juveniles charged with disordlery conduct
* On Friday, Nov. 20, at approximately 3:30 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department School Resource Officer and school staff at the Storm Lake High School were made aware of a fight at the high school.
Two females were allegedly observed fighting in the school and school staff and the resource officer intervened and separated the two females.
Following an investigation police arrested a 15 year old female of Storm Lake and a 17 year old female of Storm Lake and charged them both with Disorderly Conduct.
Both juveniles were processed and released to a parent pending a court date.
No injuries were reported.
The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
Middle school students charged after fight
* On Monday, Nov. 20, at approximately 1:20 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Middle School in reference to a fight.
Upon arrival of police they met with school staff and learned that staff had allegedly witnessed two students engaged in a fight at which time staff intervened and separated the two students.
Following an investigation police arrested a 13 year old male of Storm Lake and a 13 year old male of Lakeside, and charged them both with Disorderly Conduct. Both juveniles were processed and released to a parent.
No injuries were reported.
The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
Fire Calls
* On Sunday, Nov. 22, at approximately 12:36 p.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 210 East 13th Street #11 in reference to a report of a burning odor.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they entered the apartment and located a wicker basket near an electric space heater in the bathroom. The close proximity of the basket to the heater caused the burning odor.
There was no fire and no damage.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 30 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.
* On Saturday, Nov. 21, at approximately 10:31 a.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 904 East Milwaukee Avenue #4 in reference to an odor of natural gas.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they entered the apartment and detected a faint odor of natural gas. Fire fighters determined that a malfunctioning furnace in the apartment was causing the odor. The gas supply to the furnace was shut off by Alliant Energy until repairs could be made.
There was no damage and no injuries.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 30 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and Alliant Energy Staff.
Theft/Vandalism
* On Nov. 24, a theft was reported at 315 Vilas Rd in Storm Lake. Value of the missing items was estimated at $520.
* On Nov. 24, vandalism to a window was reported at 310 Cayuga St in Storm Lake. Value of the damage was estimated at $350.
* On Nov. 23, a theft was reported from 1607 N Lake Avenue, with a theft value of $55.
* On Nov. 22, a theft was reported at 147 Flindt Dr. Value of the missing item was estimated at $75.
* On Nov. 21, vandalism to a vehicle was reported while parked in the 1200 block on Lincoln Road. Damage was estimated at $1,500.
* On Nov. 21, vandalism was reported at 908 Emerald Dr. Damage was estimated at $40.
* On Nov. 21, vandalism was reported at 920 Emerald Dr. Damage was reported at $10.
* On Nov. 20, a burglary to a vehicle was reported while parked at 621 Tornado Dr in Storm Lake. Value of the missing CD player was estimated at $50.
* On Nov. 17, vandalism to a vehicle was reported while parked at 1831 N Lake Ave in Storm Lake. Damage was estimated at $5.
