Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Alta. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Louis Franz Winterhof was born Jan. 10, 1918 in Cherokee County, son of Henry and Lilla (Huseman) Winterhof. He was baptized on Jan. 27, 1918 by Reverend Wehking at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hanover, and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1931. Louis received his education in a country school just a few miles from his home place.
Louis resided with his parents, was a farm hand and worked for Bill Suling shelling corn for farmers in the area. He moved to Galva, around 1957 and was employed by the Galva Lumber Yard for 14 years. After the Lumber Yard closed, he started custom painting in Galva and surrounding areas.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Verna Witt of Windom, Minn. and Delores (Bob) Popp of Marshalltown; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lilla Winterhof; two brothers, Edgar and Lowell Winterhof; and his brother-in-law, Ernst Witt.
