Educator Melinda Coogan finds many environmental roles in Storm Lake.
The proposed Storm Lake Watershed Interpretative Center project, a final part of the AWAYSIS development, will provide yet another opportunity for community members, college students and visitors to the area to learn about the ecology of the Storm Lake area, says Melinda Coogan, BVU Assistant Professor of Biology and member of the Planning Committee for the interpretive center project.

"Wetlands are such unique systems that provide numerous direct and indirect environmental services for all life," she says. "The interactions within a wetland system are extremely dynamic and a facility like Little Lake Discovery Center can be a place where people of all ages come to learn more about the beauty and wonder of wetlands and our unique region here in northwest Iowa."

Coogan, who also works with the Raccoon River Watershed Association, recently volunteered for the city Water Advisory Board.
