On Thursday, Sept. 17, Storm Lake United hosted the ever-so-popular "Thanks with Franks" throughout the city. Oktoberfest, a new event, took place on Saturday, Sept. 19 within the 600 block of downtown Storm Lake. Both events were a big success.
Thanks with Franks is an annual customer appreciation night. This year the businesses served approximately 3,100 hot dogs, which means 30% more hot dogs were served this year compared to last year. With the increase of hot dogs served, Storm Lake United anticipates a lot more community members ventured into our local businesses.
In addition to serving hot dogs, there was also a scarecrow dressing contest, a live Mr. Pumpkin and Mr. Scarecrow, pumpkin cookie decorating, Sky High Bounce & Balloons, and the city police cars and fire trucks were on display. The evening provided free food and entertainment for the entire family.
Justin Porter, the manager at Brown's Shoe Fit, comments, "Thanks with Franks was a great event. We served over 200 hot dogs in less than an hour. This event is a great way to thank our loyal customers and also invite new customers into the store."
Oktoberfest was sponsored by Lake Avenue Lounge, Smokey's, Zone Home Entertainment, and B&K Mercantile. The event started at 5:00 p.m. with German food and a beer garden. At 8:00 p.m. the live music began with A.S.A.P Band. Oktoberfest created a great atmosphere downtown, which entertained those in attendance.
