Circus Comes to Alta

Monday, June 1, 2009

The Great American Circus of Stars will make a stop in Alta Monday with a performance scheduled at 7 p.m. at the Buena Vista Fairgrounds.

The animal-free circus will include aerialists, acrobats, trapeze stars, jugglers, clowns, comedy acts and thrill acts.

Costumed Sponge Bob Square Pants and Madagascar characters will be present and provide many photo opportunities. McGruff the Crime Dog will also provide a message to kids about saying "no" to drugs.

The family-oriented circus is made up of performers from across the world including Mexico, Argentina and Russia. While the performers change each year, the production company has been around for many years, based out of Gainesville, Texas. This year's tour - which lasts 11 months of the year - will include stops in 40 states in rural communities as well as large cities.

The circus acts, commented booking agent Carol King, are performed with families in mind; adults as well as kids will enjoy the entertainment.

The show is just under 90 minutes. Free tickets for kids 12 and under are available at Alta merchants and some Storm Lake merchants; adult admission is $12 and may be paid at the gate. Doors open one hour before showtime.
