HS student orientation in Storm Lake

Freshmen and new student orientation and the Storm Lake High School Open House will be Monday, Aug. 18, from 6:45-9 p.m.

Registration will be at 6:45 p.m., with an orientation meeting to start at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. The teaching staff will be introduced at 7:30 p.m. A mock first day schedule will run from 7:45-9 p.m. throughout the building.

All Storm Lake High School freshmen and their parents as well as high school students new to the district and their parents are encouraged to attend this special orientation session in the high school gymnasium

Information and materials in regard to school policies and procedures and student-parent-school expectations and responsibilities will be discussed by Principal Mike Hanna, Assistant Principal Steve Webner, Counselors Rick Scheidel and JoAnn Lanning, Activities Director Rick Anderson, and School Nurse Jackie Scheidel.

All other SLHS students and their parents are also encouraged to attend the Open House / Mock Schedule portion of the evening at 7:30 p.m.

All students in attendance will receive their class schedules for review during the large group meeting and/or for use during a "trial run" of the first day schedule following the large group meeting at around 7:45 p.m. Teachers will be on hand in their rooms from 7:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. as students and parents run through their student's schedule. Classes will be about four to five minutes long with a three-minute passing time between. Teachers will introduce themselves and briefly go over class expectations.

SLHS Student Council members, under the direction of Advisor Pat Armstrong, will assist people with schedules and finding rooms.
