A Linn Grove man who escaped from a Department of Corrections treatment facility in Sheldon in O'Brien County over a year ago was captured in neighboring Sioux County after running a stop sign, authorities said.
William Cullen Bryant, 55, of Linn Grove, had been serving a five-year sentence for a fifth charge of drunken driving. He escaped in May 2002, said corrections spokesman Fred Scaletta.
Bryant was caught by a Sioux County sheriff's deputy on Friday afternoon when the deputy saw him run a stop sign near Alton and nearly collide with another vehicle, the sheriff's office said.
Bryant was arrested on charges of possession of an illegal substance, open containers and drunken driving.
He remained in the Sioux County Jail on $2,500 bond on Monday and was awaiting a transfer to the corrections department on the escape charge.
