The hottest ticket selling in Iowa right now is to the Iowa RockNRoll Music Association's 2003 Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular on Sunday, Aug. 31. Advanced sales are breaking records for the event slated for The Roof Garden at Arnolds Park. Only 1,600 tickets are available.
Events take place all day leading up to the Awards Ceremony and Concert, where the historic Cobblestone Inn at Lakeside will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Record Collectors and Collectibles Show takes place in The Pavillion, next to the Roof Garden. During that show the Celebrity Memorabilia Auction will provide buyers with a wide variety of times signed by their favorite stars. Proceeds will go toward the operation of the newly opened Iowa RockNRoll Music Museum. From 3:30 - 4:30 p.m., the 2003 Inductees will be on hand in The Pavilion for a Meet and Greet Autograph party. There is no admission charge to any of these events.
Doors to The Roof Garden will open at 4:45 for the Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular that starts at 5:15 and continues until midnight. Among the other 2003 Inductees into the Hall of Fame are: Grammy winners Brenda Lee (Women Who Rock category) and Michael Lehmann Boddicker (Cedar Rapids), Doobie Brothers drummer Keith Knudsen (LeMars), the Everly Brothers, disc jockey Doug MacKinnon of KIOAA in Des Moines, and the entertainment magazine, "Twist & Shout" (Fort Dodge) with its "A Look Back" column by Tom Tourville.
Bands to be inducted include: Sensational Soul Company (Estherville), Last Shades of Dawn (Des Moines), Green Giants (Shenandoah), Ron Jorday & the Volcanoes (Clinton), The Shades, (Dubuque), Dark Knights (Emmetsburg), the Rock N' Flames (What Cheer) plus Bonesteel, The Rockers and The Flames, all of Sioux City.
Along with the Cobblestone Ballroom, Inwood Ballroom at Spillville will be inducted as a historic music venue.
