An Emergency Medical Technician-Basic course will begin Wednesday, November 5 at 6:30 p.m. with registration and orientation.
The class will meet at the Iowa Central Community College Storm Lake Center. The course will be held every Wednesday night from 6:30-10 p.m. and every other Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Cost for the course is $631.50 plus books ($110) and is worth 6.5 college credits. CPR is required and costs $35.
Course topics include: patient assessment, examination to recognize signs and symptoms of illness or injury, and safe transport of patients along with skill proficiencies in patient assisted medications, automated defibrillation (AED), non-medicated IV monitoring, and advanced airway adjuncts.
The class consists of 121 classroom/lab hours and 24 clinical hours. Small group hands-on activities complement the skills taught during the lecture. The course will conclude on or about April 16, 2004.
