Updates from the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office.

ACCIDENTS

On Oct. 12 at 5:10 p.m., an accident occurred at the intersection of West Railroad Street and Geneseo Street. A 1995 Ford, driven by Shane Meyer, 20, 118 Oneida Street, Storm Lake, was eastbound on West Railroad Street. A 1991 Dodge, driven by Megan Tapps, 18, Van Meter, was northbound on Geneseo Street, entered the intersection and the vehicles collided. Damage was estimated at $750 to the Meyer vehicle and $1,250 to the Tapps vehicle.

An accident occurred at 8:16 a.m. on Oct. 13 at the intersection of West 7th Street and Ontario Street. A 1989 Oldsmobile, driven by Richard Hanson, 63, 708 Geisinger Road, Storm Lake, was westbound on West 7th Street entering the intersection. A 1997 Hyundai, driven by Kristina Kramer, 22, 411 West 4th Street, Storm Lake, was northbound on Ontario Street, entered the intersection and the vehicles collided. Kramer was charged with Failure To Obey Traffic Control Device. Damages were estimated at $1,000 to the Hanson vehicle and $4,000 to the Kramer vehicle.

On Oct. 13 at 3:43 p.m. an accident occurred in the Storm Lake High School parking lot, 621 Tornado Drive. A 1994 Ford, driven by Jesse Smith, 17, 6391 90th Avenue, Storm Lake, was pulling out of a parking space turning northeast. A 1999 Infinity, drive by Tajalben Patel, 17, 1504 Lake Avenue, Storm Lake, was northbound in the lot and the vehicles collided. Damage was estimated at $50 to the Smith vehicle and $500 to the Patel vehicle.

An accident occurred on Oct. 13 at 5:46 p.m. at the intersection of Lake Avenue and West 9th Street. A 1993 Chevy, driven by Ricky Wienhold, 32, 6140 2140th Avenue, Newell, was southbound on Lake Avenue, entering the intersection. A 1994 Buick, driven by Wanda Schurg, 42, Ruthven, was eastbound on West 9th Street, entered the intersection and the vehicles collided. Schurg was charged with Failure To Obey A Traffic Control Device. Damage was estimated at $1,000 to the Wienhold vehicle and $5,000 to the Schurg vehicle.

THEFT

On Oct. 13, Peter Gaherty, 417 Lake Avenue, Storm Lake, reported the theft of the convertible top from his vehicle while parked in the front yard of his residence. Value of the convertible top was estimated at $200.

VANDALISM

On Oct. 13, Larry Helm, Commerce City, Calif. reported the vent window on his Peterbuilt truck was broken out while parked in the IBP parking lot, 300 Flindt Drive. Damage was estimated at $50.
