Learn how to start a medical transcription business

Learn what it takes to start your own home-based medical transcription business at an upcoming ICCC workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Instructor Julie Barlow will provide participants information on the necessary skills, experience and equipment needed to start a home-based transcription business. Barlow has over 14 years experience in the medical transcription field and has developed a successful home-based business, doing transcription for hospitals and clinics across the country.

The cost of the workshop is $50. It will be held at the ICCC Storm Lake Center in Room 17. Medical Transcription courses will be held at ICCC in Storm Lake starting in September 2003, also taught by Barlow

Learn the basic of becoming a medical transcriptionist at an upcoming ICCC short course to be held for 10 consecutive Monday evenings starting Sept. 8. The course will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The class will cover skill development in transcribing machine-dictated material into useable documents. Students will refine their word processing, English, keyboarding and transcription skills in the medical area. It is recommended that participants have keyboarding skills of 50 wpm, a medical terminology background along with excellent spelling and English skills before enrolling in this course. Skill development courses in these areas are also available through the ICCC Storm Lake Center.

The cost of the short course is $182 plus text fee. It will be held at the ICCC Storm Lake Center in Room 17. To register or for more information contact the ICCC Storm Lake office at 732-2991.
