'A City Beautiful'

Tuesday, October 17, 2000

Storm Lake will move one step closer to hiring a city administrator this weekend when the five candidates come to Storm Lake for interviews.

There will be a public reception on Friday, 4-5 p.m., at City Hall to allow the public to meet the five candidates. The city council will try to reach a consensus on who to hire that Saturday, authorizing the city's search firm, the Brimeyer Group, to conduct the negotiations.

The five candidates for Storm Lake's city administrator positions talked with the Pilot- Tribune about Storm Lake's strengths and what they see in the future of Storm Lake.

John Call is the current city administrator in Fort Madison. He held previous administration positions in Eagle Grove and Pocahontas. He is also a graduate from then-Buena Vista College. Call is from Spirit Lake.

"I know Storm Lake is a very successful community, with educational institutions, industry and their residential housing," Call said, noting the quality of life in Storm Lake and the recreational opportunities offered by the lake.

"I know from being from the area that (Storm Lake) is a very successful area and a successful community," he added. "The future city administrator will work with the city council and staff to continue on in the same successful direction they have been in the past."

Fort Madison is a city of about 12,000. Much of Fort Madison's operations are similar to Storm Lake's, Call said.
