Kristel Kay and Bret Fulcher were united in marriage on July 1 at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. Father James Kiernan officiated the 6 p.m. candlelight ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Richard and Kathy Kay of Atlantic and William and Barbara Fulcher of Alta. Special guests were the couple's grandparents, Mrs. Della Strittmatter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kay and Mr. Lucien Harryman.

Soloist Gail Warner, cousin of the bride, sang, "Grow Old with Me," by Lennon, "The Cross of Love," by Zaragoze, "You Are Mine," by Haas, "The Lord's Prayer," by Malotte, "Taste and See," by Hurd and "Ave Maria," by Schubert.

Seating the guests were Phil and Ryan Kay, brothers of the bride and Michael Olson and Chad Buresch, friends of the couple. Kristen Huepel and Andrea Fulcher, sisters of the groom sat at the guest book and were Eucharistic Ministers. Thomas Fulcher, uncle of the groom and Charles Strittmatter, uncle of the bride, were lectors.

The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, wore a full-length sleeveless satin gown in candlelight. The dress had a scoop neckline and a natural waistline that was banded with re-embroidered lace accented with tiny seed pearls. The A-line skirt, also accented with re-embroidered lace design and featured seed pearls, fell into a sweep train. The bride wore blusher and cathedral veils accented with rhinestones.

The bride carried a bundle of Virginia roses. She also carried two lace handkerchiefs, one which belonged to her great-grandmother Strittmatter and the other to her great-great-grandmother Kay.

Heather Kay, sister-in-law of the bride, was the matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Melissa Buresh and Stephanie Wessels, both friends of the bride. They wore black floor-length crepe dresses trimmed around the neckline with black bugle beads. They carried white calla lilies accented with a silver ribbon. The flower girls were Jordan Strittmatter and Ellen Warner, both cousins of the bride. The bride's personal attendant was Heidi Meyer, friend of the bride.

Curt Fulcher, brother of the groom, was the best man. The groomsmen were Corey Wistrom, friend of the groom and David Heupel, brother-in-law of the groom. The ringbearer was Charlie Coon, cousin of the groom. He carried the pillow that was used at the bride's parents' wedding.

Following the ceremony, a reception and dance were held at the West Des Moines Marriott. Wayne and Barb Strittmatter, uncle and aunt of the bride and William and Marcia Rameker, uncle and aunt of the groom, served as hosts and hostesses.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at Christopher's Restaurant in Des Moines following the church rehearsal on Friday, June 30.

The couple are making their home in Overland Park, Kan., where the groom is a computer programmer with Cerner Corporation and the bride is a second grade teacher in the Blue Valley School District.
