The city's Traffic Safety Team, consisting of City Engineer Jim Winterton, Street Superintendent Pat Kelly and Police Chief Mark Prosser, recommended making the intersection four way at a council meeting this week.
Prosser gave several reasons for making the intersection a four-way stop. There is a blind spot for northbound traffic on College from eastbound traffic on Lakeshore, he said.
Also, Prosser said there is an increased risk of accidents involving pedestrians. That intersection marks the beginning of the non-paved area of the Lake Trail, as well as has heavy pedestrian traffic from the Buena Vista University football stadium.
