Dr. Larry Schou, Music Professor at University of South Dakota, and the Buena Vista University Choir and Brass, will be featured in a program of organ and choral music. The concert will be held on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 402 Lake Ave. in Storm Lake.
This is part of a national program, PIPES SPECTACULAR, sponsored by the American Guild of Organists, to acquaint people with the glorious sounds of the "King of Instruments." Over 300 programs will be presented on Oct. 15 throughout the nation, and this area is fortunate to have a sponsoring chapter.
Dr. Schou is an active recitalist who received his graduate degrees in organ performance from the University of Michigan. He is a recipient of over 23 South Dakota Arts Council grants and University grants. In 1995, he was awarded a prestigious South Dakota Arts Council fellowship grant for his artistic achievement in the state. He has served as liturgist and director of music for several church denominations throughout the Midwest during the past 25 years.
Schou's 2000-2001 concert schedule will take him to five different state performances. Recently, he has performed at the 39th Annual Conference on Organ Music, in Colonial Williamsburg and presentation at the Region III Convention of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians. His performances have been broadcast on Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota public radio.
He has been an elected member of the National Council of the American Guild of Organists since 1996.
