Newell-Fonda enjoys big homecoming win, 20-14

NEWELL - Kyle Stauter threw for two touchdown passes and ran for another to help lift Newell-Fonda to a 20-14 win over Lakeland in a Class 1A district game Friday night at Newell.

Stauter hooked up with Corey Carlton for a 17-yard TD strike in the second quarter, and then fired a 25-yard pass to Dustin Sievers for a 14-7 lead in the first half.

Stauter scored the Mustangs' only touchdown in the second half when he plunged in from 1 yard out.

Lakeland scored on a 64-yard pass from Ryan Geelan to Jeremy Langner and a 2-yard run by Brian Bland.

Sievers rushed for 72 yards on 16 carries. John Witt rushed for 47 yards.

Brandon Kies had 11 tackles and Wade Brower 10 to lead the Mustangs on defense. Witt added nine.
