Alta's bid for third straight win denied

Tuesday, October 3, 2000

ALTA - Kevin Krausman scored on a pair of 8-yard runs and Pomeroy-Palmer's defense held Alta to just 113 yards in total offense as it rolled to an 18-0 win in a Class A district game Friday night at Alta.

Alta had just 94 yards rushing on 40 carries and 19 yards passing. The Cyclones had three possessions inside the Knight 20-yard line and did not score on any of them.

"We were down inside the 10-yard line twice in the second quarter and we didn't score either time," Alta coach Kevin Hammer said. "That was a big difference in the game. We fumbled once and lost it on downs. In the third quarter we fumbled at their 20-yard line. Give Pomeroy-Palmer credit for stopping us. Their offensive and defensive lines controlled the line of scrimmage and dictated what went on."

Nick Ford hit Dustin Thompson with a 6-yard TD pass to make it a 6-0 game in the first quarter.

It stayed that way until Krausman scored two TDs in the fourth quarter to make it academic.

Jon Nielsen was held to 66 yards rushing on 21 carries for Alta. Eric Hanson rushed for 30 yards.

Nate Wiese led the Cyclones on defense with 16 tackles. Luke Nielsen had 15, Ryan Schultze 14 and Josh Droegmiller, Jon Nielsen and Travis Flink all had seven apiece for Alta, now 2-3.
