Mrs. Peterson passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee. She had been a resident at the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia for the past 20 years.
Pauline Pearl Petlon was born July 30, 1916, the daughter of Jay and Ada (Daugherty) Petlon, near Aurelia. She attended country school until the eighth grade and then went to Brooke School, graduating in 1933. She graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and taught country school for one year and five years in the Newell Public School, teaching third and fourth grade.
She then enrolled at Northwestern College, a Bible college in Minneapolis, Minn., where she completed three years of classes.
On Aug. 22, 1945, she was united in marriage to Pastor Virgil Peterson at Elk Baptist Church in Alta. The couple spent several years in the ministry, serving churches in Climbing Hill, Spirit Lake and Corning. She spent many years teaching Sunday School.
Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Virgil on Dec. 22, 1965 and two brothers: Willard Petlon and Jack Petlon.
She is survived by three sons and their wives: Tim and Denise Peterson of Kettering, Ohio, David and Barbara Peterson of Madison, S.D. and Doug and Bonnie Peterson of Mason City; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother Robert and his wife Ruth Petlon of Aurelia; three sisters Mildred Chilgren of Aurelia, Evelyn and her husband Alvin Nelson of Albert Lee, Minn. and Gwen Miller of Sloan; five sisters-in-law: Fern Petlon of Aurelia, Virginia and her husband Tom Aldrich of Sacramento, Calif., Helen Johnson of Alta and Bernie Harding and Velma Peterson, both of Storm Lake; many nieces, nephews and friends.
