The nationally televised Mrs. America Pageant has issued a call for Buena Vista County to find a candidate to compete for the title of Mrs. Iowa 2001. She will represent Buena Vista County in the 2001 Mrs. Iowa pageant this summer.
The Mrs. Iowa Pageant is a statewide event that honors the state's loveliest married women and sends an Iowa representative to the National Mrs. America competition. According to Tracy Christ Executive Director, "In its 26th year, the Mrs. America Pageant is the major beauty competition dedicated to recognizing the one person who contributes so much to modern family life...America's married woman. While beauty is a key element in the competition, Mrs. Iowa contestants are also urged to voice their opinions on marriage and other important issues of the day."
According to Christ, the Mrs. America program has only one purpose: to celebrate the beauty of America's married women. "Mrs. America contestants do not necessarily fit any particular mold. Our participants represent an incredible variety of backgrounds, lifestyles and personal interests. In the past, the age range for contestants has been from 23 to 72 years. Many of our contestants have children, others do not. Our reigning Mrs. Iowa has one child!" The proceedings include evening gown, swimwear and interview competitions.
The two day event, hosted at the Sioux City Convention Center and Riverboat Inn in Sioux City on June 8 and 9, culminates the selection for Mrs. Iowa 2001. Married women interested are urged to contact Tracy Christ immediately at 847-245-7215 or via email a firstname.lastname@example.org.
