POLICE AND SHERIFF'S BLOTTER
Update from the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista Sheriff's Office.
On Sept. 19 at 3:25 p.m., an accident occurred in the 100 block of West Milwaukee Avenue. A 1991 Chevy, driven by Cecil Chindlund, 72, 517 Swallum Drive, Storm Lake, was eastbound on West Milwaukee Avenue. A 1994 Saturn, driven by J. David Sprau, 26, 105 Oneida Street, Storm Lake, northbound on Michigan Street, struck the Chndlund vehicle. Damage was estimated at $400 to the Chindlund vehicle and $400 to the Sprau vehicle.
On Sept. 19 at 5:02 p.m., an accident occurred in the alley of the 300 block of West 5th Street. A 1996 Buick, driven by Mary Burke, 48, 1315 Lochedem Drive, Storm Lake, was backing up in the alley. A 1996 Chevy, driven by Stephanie Quirk, 25, Alta, was traveling behind the Burke vehicle and the vehicles collided. Damage was estimated at $800 to the Quirk vehicle and $200 to the Burke vehicle.
On Sept. 11 at 8:12 p.m., an accident occurred in the 900 block of East 5th Street. A 1993 Ford, owned by Rural Transit Authority, Spencer, was parked in the 900 block of East 4th Street. A 1992 Dodge, driven by Chanty Sompantabansouk, 31, 724 Cayuga Street, Storm Lake, while backing from a parking space, struck the Rural Transit Authority vehicle. Sompantabansouk was charged with Improper Backing. Damages were estimated at $100 to the Sompantabansouk vehicle and $800 to the Rural Transit Authority vehicle.
On Sept. 15 at 10:05 a.m., an accident occurred at the intersection of Lake Avenue and 5th Street. A 1980 Buick, driven by Sandra Elliott, 44, Cherokee, was southbound on Lake Avenue behind an unknown vehicle which was stopped for the red light, when the brakes of Elliott's vehicle did not function properly causing the Elliott vehicle to strike the unknown vehicle. Elliott then parked in a space on Lake Avenue to look for the vehicle which was struck but could not locate the vehicle. There was no damage to the Elliott vehicle.
On Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m., an accident occurred at the intersection of College Avenue and West 6th Street. A 1992 Ford, driven by Jose Moran, 24, 426D West 9th Street, Storm Lake, was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection. A 1998 Chevy, driven by Roberta Bochtler, 56, 719 Oneida Street, Storm Lake, was behind the Moran vehicle. Moran put his vehicle in reverse, striking the Bochtler vehicle. Roberta Bochtler received minor injuries but was not transported for medical attention. There was no damage to either vehicle.
On Sept. 18 at 3:40 p.m., an accident occurred at the intersection of East 5th Street and Oneida Street. A 1988 Chevy, driven by Honorio Jacuide-Chavez, 22, 718 Ontario Street, Storm Lake, was eastbound on East 5th Street. A 1995 Pontiac, driven by Porfirio Reyes, 60, Marshall, Minn., was stopped southbound on East 5th Street for a stop sign, then entered the intersection striking the Jacuide-Chavez vehicle. Reyes was charged with Failure To Yield After Stop Sign. Damage was estimated at $4,500 to the Reyes vehicle and $2,500 to the Jacuide-Chavez vehicle.
On Sept. 19, Scott Bonebrake, 328 Geneseo Street, Storm Lake, reported that sometime between Sept. 16 and Sept. 18 the right fender of his pickup was scratched while parked in his driveway. Damage was estimated at $500.
On Sept. 20, Bob Williams of the City of Storm Lake Parks Department, reported the theft of a U.S. flag, a MIA-POW flag, a rope, and fasteners from the flag pole at Frank Starr Park, Storm Lake. Value of the stolen items was estimated at $90.
