It's going to be an exciting week at Alta High School, as Homecoming festivities kick-off on Monday. There are plenty of activities scheduled revolving around the theme, "Lights Out on the Knights."
Monday features 'autograph day.' Students are asked to wear an old T-shirt and bring a black permanent marker to sign the other shirts. Class competitions begin with downtown window paintings, floats and decorating the gym lobby at the high school. Students will also be decorating 4 x 8 pieces of plywood to be used for the pep rally and at the football field. At 2:50 p.m., fun competitions begin in the gym and in the evening, float building will continue.
Tuesday will be 'Nerd Day' and high school students will be looking a little bit different than they normally do. The volleyball tournament begins and will feature teams with no more than 10 players, and during the game two girls must be on the court at all time. The pie eating contest will get underway at 2:50 p.m. and there will be plenty of hungry guys and gals trying to win the coveted title of gobbling the most pie in the least amount of time. The float building will conclude the evening's activities.
Find a partner and dress alike for 'Let's Be Twin Day' on Wednesday. The volleyball tournament continues in the afternoon followed by a fun game of dodge ball at 2:50 p.m. It will also be the final evening to build the class floats.
'Decade Day' will be the feature fashion statements from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's on Thursday. The afternoon will conclude with the volleyball tournament and a lip sync contest presented to the student body. In the evening, floats must be lined-up by 5:30 p.m. south and west of the high school for the parade, which will get underway at 6:30 p.m. Coronation ceremonies will begin immediately following the parade. The court will feature three senior girls and three senior boys vying for the title of King and Queen. Class attendants from the freshman, sophomore and junior classes will also be presented.
'Spirit Day' on Friday will have students wearing Cyclone black and red. At 12:10 there will be a pep rally in the gym with the entire kindergarten through sixth grades in attendance. High school students will be treated to a picnic at the shelter house at 12:45 p.m. and wrap up the final volleyball games at 1:30 p.m.
Pre-game festivities Friday evening will include the presentation of the Homecoming royalty and class attendants. The big game will pit the Cyclones against the Knights of Pomeroy-Palmer with kick-off slated at 7:30 p.m. The Homecoming dance will wrap up Homecoming 2000 at Alta High School, beginning immediately after the game and lasting until 12:30 a.m.
