Exciting festivities and reunions are in store as Buena Vista University celebrates its 2000 Homecoming, taking place in Storm Lake from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.
The weekend activities begin on Friday, Sept. 29, as several BVU alumni gather to share their success stories with current students at the Career Symposium. This event gives BVU students the opportunity to network with graduates working in a variety of career fields and listen as they share valuable lessons from their professional experiences.
Also on Friday at 4 p.m., the traditional Homecoming Parade marches north on Lake Avenue in downtown Storm Lake.
Alumni will have a chance to gather before the football game on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Tailgate Barbecue, sponsored by the BV Club beginning at 11:30 a.m. on the lawn south of the Harold Walter Siebens Forum. Reunions for all former BVU wrestlers, tennis players and baseball teams will take place at the barbecue, as well as reunions of accounting majors, the Phi Alpha Pi sorority and the classes of 1975, 1990 and 1995. Just inside the gate area of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, kids' activities will be underway from 12:45 to 2 p.m. featuring a magician, face-painting and fun games.
The Cornerstone Guard and Alumni Recognition Luncheon will be held in the Harold Walter Siebens Forum at 11:30 a.m. This year's Alumni Association Awards will be presented to Linda (Sauser) Moroney SL '91, Steven R. Smith SL '68, Irene Wagner SL '45 and Robert and Dorothy Ohrlund.
The BVU Beaver football team takes on William Penn University at 1:30 p.m. in J. Leslie Rollins Stadium and during halftime of the game, BVU Homecoming Royalty and Alumni Award winners will be presented. Following the game, join President Fred and Susan Moore for the Fifth Quarter Fest, taking place in the Grand Ballroom of the Harold Walter Siebens Forum.
To cap off Homecoming Weekend, the BVU Band and Choir will perform a concert in the newly renovated Schaller Memorial Chapel at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1.
