The Alta Police Department responded to a suicide threat at 310 Prospect Street in Alta Tuesday. The complainant said her boyfriend had threatened to do her harm and had also threatened to commit suicide. She reportedly told authorities that her boyfriend had also made threats toward the police if they were notified.
Alta police officers observed the male individual standing by the window with a rifle. At this point, the responding police officers backed away and attempted to resolve the incident through verbal communications, utilizing crisis negotiators from the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Department and Storm Lake Police Department.
After all attempts through the negotiators failed, the Buena Vista County Special Entry Response Team then conducted an emergency entry into the residence. The male individual was taken into custody and later admitted into the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee.
