WEST DES MOINES - Megan Kestel set a new school record in the 500 freestyle to highlight Storm Lake's performance in the West Des Moines Valley Invitational swim meet on Saturday.
Storm Lake finished 10th in the team standings with 48 points. West Des Moines Dowling won the meet with 538.
Kestel placed 13th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6 minutes, 6.15 seconds. The 200 medley relay team of Kayla Snow, Kelly Larson, Amber Griffin and Kelly Schultz were 13th with a time of 2:11.81.
The 200 freestyle relay unit of Megan Bishop, Kayla Gutz, Emily Holliday and Matty Richardson were 15th in 2:00.01. The 400 freestyle relay of Kestel, Griffin, Snow and Nichole Ahlers were 12th in a time of 4:15.25.
Lyndsey Reinert, Steph Klar, Jessica Anderson and Kristin Rude teamed up to finish 16th in the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:18.15, while the 400 freestyle team of Jill Kestel, Holliday, Sybil Reinert and Lyndsey Reinert were 15th in 4:27.62.
Individually, Megan Kestel finished 15th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:15.91. Jill Kestel was 22nd in 2:22.58 and Ahlers 24th in 2:24.33.
Griffin placed 21st in the 200 individual medley in 2:43.41, while Klar was 22nd in 2:47.93. Schultz finished 15th in the 50 freestyle in a time of 28.02 seconds, while Billie Blanchard was 16th in 28.03, Rude 17th in 28.20 and Gutz 32nd in 31.74.
In the 100 butterfly, Griffin placed 21st with a time of 1:18.43, while Sybil Reinert was 25th in 1:20.40, Bishop 26th in 1:21.06 and Anderson 28th in 1:23.11.
Snow took 12th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.76, while Schultz was 18th in 1:03.23, Rude 25th in 1:04.51 and Holliday 29th in 1:05.67.
Jill Kestel placed 21st in the 500 freestyle in 6:25.09, while Ahlers was 24th in 6:36.97. Snow took 12th in the 100 backstroke in 1:10.60, while Lyndsey Reinert was 21st in 1:17.98 and Sybil Reinert 24th in 1:23.35.
Larson placed 16th in the 100 breast stroke in a time of 1:21.11, while Klar was 20th in 1:24.42. Angie Hohneke placed 21st in 1:24.47 and Bishop 27th in 1:34.13.
