Funeral services for Bernard Jackson, 84, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Storm Lake, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge, with Rev. David Feltman officiating.
Burial of cremains will be in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Mr. Jackson passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.
Bernard F. Jackson was born June 17, 1916 in Estherville. He graduated from Estherville High School in 1933.
On Feb. 6, 1937, he was united in marriage to Vivian Dow in Des Moines. The couple lived in Estherville until 1947 when they moved to Storm Lake, where he started a career in the insurance business. In 1963, the couple moved to Fort Dodge where he continued his career in insurance, including 30 years with The Ohio National Life Insurance Company. He also owned and managed apartment rentals since 1976.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge where he was an Elder, active in the choir for over 20 years and participated in the Men's Bible at Breakfast Group. Among his favorite activities were golf (both as a participant and a spectator) and playing cribbage with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mabel (Amdahl) Jackson and two sisters: Jean Jenkins and Marjorie Ann Jackson.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife Vivian; two sons: Philip Jackson of Spring Valley, Calif. and David Jackson of Humboldt; three daughters: Carol Cotter of Edmonds, Wash., Julie Van Roekel of Phoenix, Ariz. and Janice Hair of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Ruby Root of El Cajon, Calif.
