Funeral services for Ronald M. "Ronnie" Galbraith, 88, of Gibson, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Gibson Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Nancy Tomlinson officiating.
Interment will follow at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. The Harden Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Galbraith died Friday, Sept. 15 at the Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa.
Ronald Merle Galbraith was born on Jan. 3, 1912 on the family farm in Mahaska County, the son of Robert and Mary (Perkins) Galbraith. He was raised in the What Cheer/Gibson area and graduated from What Cheer High School in 1929.
On Feb. 3, 1934, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Johnston. He had farmed with his father for many years near the Mahaska/Keokuk county line before settling at the family farm south of Gibson. The couple later built their home in Gibson where they settled in 1947.
Mr. Galbraith was a member of the Gibson Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of the Universe Lodge No. 242 in What Cheer. He also served on the Gibson Board of Education and City Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn in 1990 and one son Larry Dean Galbraith.
He is survived by his daughter Donna Sue and her husband Dr. Keith Geyer of Alta; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Berneice Junkins of Oskaloosa, and his companion Wilmina Henry of Oskaloosa.
