A show of prints by Barbara Elam is currently on display at the Buena Vista University Art Gallery.
Elam is an assistant professor of art at Rockford College in Rockford, Ill., with a master's degree in fine art from East Texas State University and a bachelor's degree in fine art from the University of Texas at Dallas. Her prints have been acclaimed by the Chicago correspondent for Artforum, James Good, who is also a lecturer in the department of art theory and practice at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
"Barbara Elam's recent work is intriguingly mysterious and elusive, and constitutes a very interesting and invigorating assessment of some of the challenges confronting the aspects of the relationship between men and women, the application of art historical source material, and much, much more - and mixed media monotypes are cleverly layered images that can be suggestively provocative and absorbing," Good says.
The display of Elam's prints will continue at the BVU Art Gallery until Sept. 29.
