BV martial arts expert returns for seminars

The Buena Vista University Kenpo Karate club is sponsoring a series of seminars on the BVU campus on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The club is bringing in Clint Hughes, a BVU graduate and founder of the BVU Kenpo Club. He will be giving three seminars on Saturday morning and afternoon. The seminar will be held in the Lage Communications Center on the Buena Vista University Storm Lake campus.

Hughes is now a black belt American Kenpo Karate instructor, a representative of Jeff Speakman's American Kenpo Karate Systems and is the Director of Universal Kenpo Karate Dojos. He is also a noted children's martial arts instructor.

The first seminar will be Women's Self Defense and is designed to be an easy to follow, quick and safe to learn instructional seminar on self defense for women. You will learn simple moves you can use to save yourself as well as tips and practical guides to help you avoid dangerous situations. The cost is $25 and registration may be made by calling 749-3265 and asking for Sarah.

The second seminar, Bully Beware, is designed to teach kids how to control their anger, stop a bully without fighting and then how to fend off a bully's attack. To pre-register, call 749-3465 and ask for Michael. The cost is $20 by Sept. 22 or $30 at the door.

The third seminar is an open invitation for all martial artists of any style. The rules and principles of the American Kenpo system will be the topic of instruction. It will also go into defensive flow drills, grafting of self defense techniques and utilizing proper power principles. Call 749-3465 and ask for Michael to pre-register. The cost is $25 by Sept. 22 or $35 at the door.
