Word was received Saturday, June 21 of the death of Lola Moe (Mrs. Elmer Moe), 93, of Arvada, Co., formerly of Storm Lake. Lola was a long time resident of the area and a graduate of the Sioux Rapids School, and Buena Vista College.
Survivors include a son, Lael Moe and Cathy Fennelly, Arvada, Co.; daughter, Karelyn Jenne, Las Cruces, New Mexico; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Sioux Rapids later in the summer. The family's address is 6440 W. 76th Avenue, Arvada, Co. 80008.
Funeral services for Floyd Johnsen Petersen, 86, of Alta, were held on Monday, June 23 at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta, with Pastor Duane Olson officiating. Burial was in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta.
Floyd J. Petersen, son of Frank and Elsie (Johnsen) Petersen, was born on July 8, 1916 at home on a farm near Linn Grove. While in his early teens, he went to work for paving crews with his father.
On July 13, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Pattee of Alta. For the first eleven years of their marriage, they lived in the surrounding states and across Iowa while Floyd was still working for paving crews. The next eight years, they lived in Webster City, where he worked for the city street department. In 1959, the family moved back to Alta and Floyd went to work for the BV County Highway Department until his retirement.
On June 9, 2001, his wife, Mary, passed away. Floyd stayed at his residence in Alta until October of 2002, when he moved into Careage Hills in Cherokee.
Floyd enjoyed camping, taking care of the fair grounds and race track, and working on his own vehicles.
Floyd passed away on June 19, 2003 in Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary: his parents; one brother, Duane Petersen; one sister, Joyce Hildreth; and one daughter-in-law, Linda Peterson.
Floyd is survived by two sons, Frank Peterson and his wife Karen and Rodney Petersen and his wife Linda, all of Alta; one daughter, Pat Rimmer and her husband Ivan of Granville; ten grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Mortensen of Hemet, California; and one sister-in-law, Betty Pacynski and her husband of Kennewick, Washington.
