Updates from the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office.

ACCIDENTS

Sometime between Sept. 4, 2000 at 11 p.m. and Sept. 5, 2000 at 11 a.m., a hit and run accident occurred at 209 Hudson Street, Storm Lake. A 1990 Jeep, owned by Scott Richey, 209 Hudson Street, Storm Lake, was parked in the driveway when an unknown vehicle struck it and left the scene. Damage to the Richey vehicle was estimated at $800.

On Sept. 7, 2000 at 5:10 p.m., an accident occurred in the Wal-Mart parking lot, 1280 Lake Avenue. A 1991 Pontiac, driven by Matthew Schuver, 21, Spencer, was westbound in the parking lot. A 1989 Chevy, driven by Sheryle Jenkins, 41, Washta, was backing from a parking space and the vehicles collided. Damage was estimated at $800 to the Schuver vehicle and none to the Jenkins vehicle.

VANDALISM

On Sept. 11, 2000, Mike Hanna of the Storm Lake High School staff, 610 Tornado Drive, reported writings on the sidewalk of the high school. Damage was estimated at $5.

On Sept. 11, 2000, John Owen, 711 Iowa Street, Storm Lake, reported his vehicle scratched while parked at an unknown location in Storm Lake sometime between Sept. 7 and Sept. 10. Damage was estimated at $100.

THEFT

On Sept. 7, 2000, Laurie Gaffney, 504 Geneseo Street, Storm Lake, reported the theft of her checkbook and wallet from her purse that was in her office at the Buena Vista County Hospital, 1525 West 5th Street, Storm Lake. Value of the stolen items was estimated at $60.
