SL takes third in baseball invitational

Dru Leyden went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs, and Eric Holton collected three hits to fuel a 10-hit attack as Alta knocked off Storm Lake 10-3 in the first round of the Storm Lake Invitational baseball tournament on Saturday.

The championship game between Alta and WLVA was rained out Saturday night. That game will be played tonight in Storm Lake.

Alta scored a run in the first inning, four in the second, one in the fourth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Storm Lake scored all three of its runs in the first inning.

Holton had two singles, a double, and scored three runs for Alta. Thomas Allerdings had two hits, including an RBI triple, and scored three runs.

Jamie Hammer had a pair of singles and drove in two runs, while Brad Payne delivered a two-run single.

Hammer was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits, one earned run, walked five and struck out seven.

Storm Lake had five hits. Nick Sorbe had two hits, including an RBI single.
