June-a-Palooza set for SL

June-a-Palooza plans are coming together for the new celebration in downtown Storm Lake, scheduled for Saturday, June 14.

The 500 block of Lake Avenue will be closed to traffic to allow for the events, which run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

One of the main features will be an Art Crawl art show and sale, with the Witter Gallery helping to organize work from several area artists.

There will be minnow racing in a swimming pool, outdoor chair massages by Total Concept, a $500 give-away drawing with live radio coverage at 3 p.m., food by The Boathouse, Hy-Vee and Honey-Kissed Pizza, including outdoor grilling. There will be a vehicle show by Schuelke Motors, Fitzpatrick Auto Center and Storm Lake Honda.

There will be art projects and a Jumpin' Jupiter inflatable play center on Lake Avenue, and live musicians including a local polka band just added to the line-up.

Most of the businesses will be offering in-store specials, and Fitzpatricks will provide a shuttle from the Wal-Mart Supercenter area to downtown, to allow visitors to easily enjoy both shopping areas.

Police canine show in AC

All citizens of area communities are invited to Albert City to see Storm Lake Police Officer Bowden put the SLPD canine, Max, through his paces. The event will be held Wednesday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at the Albert City Heritage Park.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Albert City Library.

The showcase is sponsored by the Albert City Library friends. Ice cream will be served.

Flower show Thursday in SL

The Biggest Flower Show in Storm Lake, sponsored by the Buena View Garden Club, will be held on Thursday, June 12, in the AEA Building Conference Room on 824 Flindt Drive.

The public is invited to attend and view the show entries and enjoy the Garden Cafe refreshments from 2 to 5:30 p.m.

The event is free of charge.

Pedal Pull invites all kids during the BV County Fair

The Buena Vista County Farm Bureau will be sponsoring a pedal pull contest for youngsters during the Buena Vista County Fair on June 21.

The competition will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the fairgrounds near Alta. Boys and girls ages 4-12 are invited to participate. Registration will begin about noon. The exact location for the pull will be determined by the weather conditions, so watch for signs or check at the fair secretary's office. Friends and relatives are invited to watch the competition and cheer on your favorite driver.

All contestants will receive participation ribbons with trophies awarded to first place finishers in each age division.

Tthe Buena Vista County Fair will be held in Alta from June 19-22.
