Two Deomocrats challenge King for 5th District Congressional seat

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

A former school board candidate has become the second person to announce plans to seek the Democratic nomination for the western Iowa congressional seat held by Republican Steve King.

David Grimesey, 30, of Sioux City, announced his candidacy for the 5th District seat Friday.

Grimesey is working toward his political science degree from Iowa State University and has worked at Carmike Cinema's for several years.

He was unsuccessful in two runs for the Sioux City school board in the 1990s.

Grimesey said he is running for Congress to set an example for those who have lost faith in government. He also said King is unwilling to work with Democrats on issues.

"If you are going to represent this district, you need to represent both sides," Grimesey said.

Sal Mohamed, of Sioux City, also has announced plans to seek the Democratic nomination for the 5th District.
