Timothy Hogrefe, the son of Gary and Julie Hogrefe of Albert City and a 2003 graduate of Albert-City-Truesdale High School, has been named as the 2003 recipient of the Shirley Sorbe Memorial Scholarship.
Hogrefe was selected from a field of 16 candidates from Buena Vista County due to his exemplary personal and professional qualities, achievements and attitude.
During his high school years, Hogrefe has been active in football, basketball, baseball, golf, track and FFA. He has served as student council representative and also participated in drama, band and choir. He is a member of the National Honor Roll, and is involved with his church youth group and assists with youth athletics. He also volunteers for the Albert City Threshermen's Days and the Albert City Educational Fundraiser.
Hogrefe's future plans are to attend Iowa Central Community College for two years and then continue his business or ag business major at a four-year college or university.
The Shirley Sorbe Memorial Scholarship was founded to pay tribute to Shirley Sorbe, a 39-year employee of Buena Vista County Farm Bureau and longtime resident of the Rembrandt and Alta communities.
